Prepping Garden Beds

Ever have one of those days when you feel like your are not meeting your goals?

That was me this morning, as we were working in the garden, getting the beds ready for plants. But, then I had to stop for lunch, and I realized just how much we really accomplished.  I really like the raised beds, they are much easier to work with then bed rows, and I can use the open ends of the cement blocks to plant herbs and flowers in. We didn’t have enough compost this year, so we bought some from the local mulch pit, along with some nice top soil. All the beds have been prepped and a few have been planted with Sweet Peppers, Burgundy Okra and Jalapeno Peppers. Tomorrow, tomatoes, bush green beans, broccoli, squash and zucchini will go in.

I have to admit, having a tractor really makes the work go quicker and a whole lot easier. And here I thought I had it made when we had gotten our first ATV! Our work time was cut down quit a bit just by having that one piece of equipment with the front end loader.

Even the cows enjoyed our company today, and Lucy is getting much friendlier. Considering they came to us without much human contact, they are doing pretty good. You can really see the Beefalo side in Ricky, with his neck hair flowing down. And Lucy is filling out nicely. They are still young, not even a year old yet. One thing I am glad of is that they won’t be huge cows. I’m ready for a baby though. And I’m seriously considering making the baby a bottle baby so it will be easier to handle as it gets older. We had such a gentle cow with Butch, totally different attitude towards humans. Not really sure I trust Ricky fully, as he is a bull, and can get a bit feisty.
