New Life on the Farm

I don’t think I have told you all yet, but we have 7 new cows on the farm, 6 of which were pregnant when they came here. I say “were” because one has already calved! He is one week old, and I was informed by daughter (who is 32 and a Marine), that we have to name this round of babies with “candy” names and dubbed the first baby Skittles.

First calf to be born on property

At a week old, he is doing great! He is nursing well, is spunky and is full of curiosity! He will be a great addition to our herd.

While I am use to being on Mare Watch, cows are a bit different when it comes to giving birth. So I really had to do some research, and ask a lot of questions when it came to this little guy. The folks we bought the cows from, Maker’s Way Farm, have been great in answering our questions and helping us learn.

With all the “new” going on at the farm, I decided it was also time to breath new life into this here old blog. While there have been changes since the last time you visited, and more changes to come, I look forward to re-engaging with some old friends and meeting some new ones. Hence, for the next 100 days, I will be doing the #100daychallange, while also trying to follow some of RedHead Writers writing prompts. This should prove to be very interesting! And I hope you all will keep me honest AND on track by being kind enough to leave comments below.

I have also added a new venture to all my many other titles I have on the farm. To pick up extra money (because we all know farming is not cheap and you don’t get immediate payout), I am no an Independent Call Center! So, from time to time, you might find an article here about working from home as such. It’s been a grand venture so far, and I am loving being able to chose when I work the farm or the phones.
