I love to plan out our garden, and this time of year, I start to get fidgety. I want to get out there and plant all the seeds and get them going good, and ready for transplant. But, I know we still have at least one more good frost to come. So, I hold myself back, and just work with the cold hardy plants. And even then, there is no guarantee those will survive (like our single digit temps we just had).
I lost a lot of tomatoes last year. The plants just got too out of control before I got them staked up, and the majority of the tomatoes rotted. NOT going to happen this year. I have my stakes all set to go and once the plants go in the ground, so will the stakes.
I’m going to try my hand at Okra this year. Though I am not a big fan of them, Nathan loves them. And I have had a lot of customers ask me for them. So these will be new for me.
Yellow Squash and Zucchini has it’s spot all laid out, while potatoes, onions and carrots will go in tires. Strawberries will be another restart this year.
Cantaloupes and watermelon are another plant I want to work with this year, since I LOVE those, not sure how many would make it to market. And of course, I have to have my purple cauliflower and broccoli for my freezer.
Then, of course, there is what the good Lord has given us already: Dandelions, Creasy Greens, and blackberries.
