Clearing the Trails
Yesterday, 5 members of the Back Country Horsemen of East Tennessee and our USFS Trails Tech, Gray Buckles, spent the day clearing the trail at the Long Creek end of Meadow Creek Mountain Trail.
We made some great progress, and now have the trail cleared all the way, so that it is now ridable to the top, and connects with the main trail. This gives us another loop to ride.
We still need to go in and do some cutting on the trail, and take out some trees that need to come down. And we need to clean up the last bit from the top. We did get all the heavy clearing done yesterday, and the trail is now ridable. Contact Herb Heinze or Tom Conner for more information on this new loop!

Unicoi Trail Progress:
Last year, we put out a call for help for volunteers for the Unaka Trail System. It has taken us some time, but we have the work complete now. Limestone Cove Trail is now ready to ride! The parking lot is done, the connector trails are complete, and the re-route has been completed. Come and check out expanding trail systems in Unicoi County. For more information on these trails, contact Larry Jeffers.
All our our hard work pays off, and twice a year, we come together to celebrate the work we have completed. It really doesn’t matter if the nice weather, or not, we always have a great time.

Wow! This sounds and looks like hard work. But definitely rewarding. I think your blog is great! I used to own horses and miss just enjoying them and the fun we’d have. Hopefully one day I’ll get back to a ranch like yours to relive some memories. I’m a fellow SITS girl and wanted to say hello!

It was a lot of fun. I pretty much just got to stand around and look pretty. My job for the day was photographer, which was great. Nathan got his certification for the chain saw, which you have to have in order to use one on Public Lands. So, it was a good day. Looking forward to going out again!

The pictures aren’t too bad, considering I use a little point and shoot camera. I’m using an old Pentax Camera to teach myself about photography. Once I get that somewhat mastered, our goal is to update to a good digital. But for now, my little P&S will have to work.

I might as well join the crowd and add my “Wow!” because that really DOES look like a lot of hard work. You must be very passionate about riding horses along the trails to go to such trouble.

The guys that worked on the trail clearing did a great job! If it wasn’t for dedication and the love to ride these mountains, we would not have the great trail system that we have in the Cherokee National Forest.
